The state of Victoria is a great place to travel to for your next holiday or vacation. It has lots of fantastic hotel accommodation and is one of the oldest states in Australia. Its capital is Melbourne which is the second largest city in the country. Melbourne is known as the cultural center of Australia as migrants from dozens of countries have chosen it as the place to make their new homes. It has a very cosmopolitan feel with different ethnic groups making a huge contribution to the pot pouri of restaurants, cafes and shopping experiences that are on offer here. Melbourne has an international airport and many incoming international tourists come here to start their Australian holiday. Tourism in Victoria is about spectacular scenery. It has some of the most photographed coast line in Australia as well as superb alpine regions with modern ski resorts, beautiful mountains and national parks.
The Great Ocean Road starts from Anglesea and follows the southern coast through the towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay to Warrnambool. This is a spectacular stretch of road from which you can see the Twelve apostles ( a number of sandstone rock formations just off the southern coast) and you better hurry because there are only nine left now as wave erosion is slowly disintegrating their foundations. The bays and beaches along its length are truly beautiful. The Grampian's are located in the western region of the state and this is a superb National Park with mountain and forest scenery that is second to none. Closer to Melbourne, the Dandenong ranges have a special beauty and are easy to visit for a day tour. Phillip Island is a great destination for wild life lovers. It has a large resident koala population and it is also home to a colony of Fairy Penguins which can be watched every evening returning to their nests.
The alpine regions of Victoria are truly spectacular. Falls Creek together with Mt Buller and, Mt Hotham are all fantastic skiing resorts with lots of on snow accommodation and plenty of excellent skiing facilities. They all have plenty of lifts, ski schools, tuition and hire services. The resorts are world class and will provide everything that the international skier is used to in Canada, the USA or Europe. The surrounding countryside is truly spectacular with forests of Bluegum and Mountain Ash which is the world's largest flowering plant. The alpine regions are all part of the Snowy Mountains National Park which are alive with Australia's native wildlife. This is a great place to visit if you want to see a kangaroo, wombat or koala in its natural habitat. There are often Victorian travel specials and accommodation packages available here.
Any international tourist planning an Australian holiday must make sure they include a tour or a visit to Victoria.
